What Experts Say About Wilson Combat

Larry Vickers

"I’ve been using Wilson Combat 1911s and magazines for years with outstanding results. Even though I get asked to build 1911s for people all the time, I just don’t have time anymore. Without hesitation, I recommend Wilson Combat to everyone that asks."

"I’ve known Bill Wilson since the early 1970’s and when I met him, he was a very active competitive shooter and he hadn’t yet started in the pistolsmithing business. He started Wilson’s Gunshop when good accessories were not readily available and you usually had to make them by hand.

Bill started manufacturing parts that were of superb quality that you could put on your gun to make it better. He has grown that industry to the point where he now makes a complete pistol built on his own components, and he has not compromised at all. He always uses the best quality components and builds a superb gun, one of the best on the market, and as I tell people, if you want a good 1911 pistol, go buy a Wilson Combat CQB. It may not be the cheapest, but it’s the best."

"What can I say about Bill Wilson that you haven't heard before? As a pioneer in the development of products for the practical pistol aficionado he has no equal. Whether your talking about the legendary 1911 magazines he developed with Bill Rogers, properly shaped grip safeties, (commonly referred to as a beaver tail) to the best adjustable sights available for a pistol, he and his company are top of the line.

It's really simple to understand when you think about it. He like most of the folks using his products is a shooter, and a damned good one. Any engineer can sit down and draw a pretty part on solid works, but until you've spent countless hours and shot hundreds of thousands of rounds on the range, you can't know what that part is really supposed to do. Like common sense, you either have it or you don't. You either get it or you don't. The ability to figure out what a part needs to do to work correctly when it's on your gun is different than just making it fit! Many in this business do not get that. Bill and his staff do.

They were there in the beginning, when we were just learning how to improve the 1911 and have built on that experience to produce the finest, best performing accessories available today. I have in the past and still to this day use many Wilson Combat products. Where as many parts designed and built back when I started in the 80's have long since retired, Most anything Wilson made is still in use today. And more than that, still winning. Wilson combat parts will make any gun better!"

"I have used Wilson Combat products virtually my whole shooting career. In both competitive shooting and work related use I have always had the highest confidence in carrying Wilson Combat products. My original CQB pistol has more rounds through it than I could begin to count and it is still my favorite 1911. As a firearms trainer who is best known for my shotgun programs, I have found the Scattergun Technology line to be ideally suited for use as either a defensive firearm or a duty use tool. A Professional Model rides to work with me every day. With WC's entry into the AR-15 market shooters now have a one stop place to cover all the bases for their shooting needs."

"As a gunsmith specializing in the 1911, I am very selective about the parts that I use and recommend. Over the years, I have used more Wilson Combat Bulletproof extractors and firing pin stops than any other brand. I always find these parts to be of extremely high quality, consistent in dimensions, and unmatched in performance. The new Bulletproof ambidextrous safety is the finest of its kind on the market."

"I have spent a lot of time shooting pistols and put several hundred thousand rounds though various pistols.  Early on in my pistol shooting I shot polymer guns and never understood the 1911 hype….until I tried one.  I started shooting the 1911 platform and then the 2011 platform in competition.  I instantly understood what the hype was all about.  The 1911 design is as reliable as anything else in my experience but it is a much more shootable platform than anything else.  How many times have you hear that aftermarket trigger X for gun Y is “like a 1911 trigger”  well in my experience nothing is like a 1911 except a 1911.The 1911 has been around for over 100 years and served our military well for over 80 years (longer in some parts of the military)the design has also won more matches and titles in competitive pistol shooting than any other pistol and is still doing it.  I think this speaks volumes for the design.  I learned early on in my 1911 experience that not all 1911s are created equal, quality of work and parts matter.  Wilson Combat has been around for as long as I’ve been alive, they have this gun figured out and make a fine 1911 that is as much a work of art as it is a reliable tool.  If you haven’t had the opportunity to shoot a Wilson, come shoot with me and shoot mine, you’ll see what I’m talking about."
