    Well made but costly.

I take magazines very seriously, as they are the heart of any semi-auto. You can have the finest gun, but put a junk mag in it and it may jam at the worst moment. So a great acid test for these magazines is the excellent, budget TISAS Service Special. I put hundreds of rounds through it with these Wilsons and Mec-Gar Match Grades without a single malfunction to date. Both brands load and feed silky smooth, hold the slide open after last round, and eject fast and clean. My concern is Mec-Gar has proven itself as the world leader in magazine design and manufacture. We know most major gun brands use Mec-Gar mags and stamp their names on them, including SIG Sauer. I can appreciate a great product made in the USA, but competition is fierce these days. Both of these top brands function perfectly and identically, so I have to give the edge to the less costly Mec-Gar Match Grades. Wilson has several clever gimmicks like many different base plates and their newer Elite Tactical line which boost their prices even more (C'mon Wilson, show some class beyond shifting the viewing cutouts of the 47D). The Vickers line is even more decadent with very questionable benefits. Any great magazine boils down to the spring and follower for reliable operation in a solid housing. Again, Wilson and Mec-Gar shine here, but the difference is the price. So if you must wave the flag, pay the high cost, but there are better values. .

really wish i could give 5 stars

Posted by angelo on Jun 28th 2025

After hearing that this magazine will help eliminate misfeeds i jumped on it hoping for the best. everyone swears by these things. ordered one in at my local shop, took it to the range and I was... not disappointed but also not super impressed. I hope you enjoy pushing your magazine in really hard to get the magazine to seat correctly, because you realllllly have to push it in. Had maybe two failures to feed with this mag in a hundred rounds, shooting magtech fmj 230 gr rounds. So yeah it still will occasionally fail to feed, but MUCH less than your standard 1911 mag. The quality feels.. eh. Decent. In conclusion, I don't know if my expectations were too high, or if i let all the good reviews get to me, but i guess i just expected a little more. Still a pretty decent mag tho, and is worth the upgrade over your stock 1911 mag.

    What's your life worth

I have had failures over the years with many respected mag makers. The ONLY brand that has never failed is Wison. Having had life and death instances I can assure you that I don't care what they cost.

No More Failure to Feed Problems

Posted by Relieved. on Dec 29th 2023

I purchased Ruger SR 1911, It came with a 7 and 8 round magazine neither of which fed cartridges without problems. I was confused and disappointed in the fact that this was a brand new weapon and I was dealing with this kind of frustrating problem. I thought ok maybe it is because it’s new so I”d wait to get through 500 rounds before sending it back to Ruger. Needless to say I didn’t make the 500 round limit I’d set before searching the web for as solution when I ran across a few articles recommending I try Wilson Combat Magazines. I ordered the stainless 47D 8 round magazine and all my feed problems went away. Ruger should collaborate with Wilson Combat so they will provide the magazines that come with the weapon. They are much too good of a company and have in most all my experiences with them ( which are many) turned out an excellent product. Now this SR 1911 works flawlessly, thanks Wilson Combat

    Wilson 47D magazines work!

Posted by Andy on Nov 22nd 2023

These magazines work fine in all of my Colt, Kimber, Dan Wesson, Nighthawk and Springfield Armory 1911 pistols. Well made and will likely last a LOT longer than I will. Can't go wrong with these magazines, and at a fair price!

Great magazines, when ever they're on sale I try to buy a few. Got 4 47D's and a couple 7 round mags and received a super nice range bag.
