The strongest handgun RDS mounting system on the market is available now.

The True Zero RDS (Red Dot Sight) attachment plate is machined from hardened chromoly steel and secured with three tapered-head T20 M4 screws. When properly torqued to specification and installed with red threadlocker, a True Zero plate will not shoot loose. A mechanical lock plus screws secures the plate to the slide. Removed and properly reinstalled, it returns to zero every time.

Switching between RMR, Holosun K / RMSc, DPP, and ACRO footprint red dots simply means changing a plate. Every plate is available with or without a rear sight dovetail, providing a windage-adjustable backup sighting system if the optic fails. True Zero is normally configured with back-up iron sights in the lower 25% of the optic window.

Master Your Red Dot

A properly selected, installed, and maintained optic provides the greatest benefit when paired with regular, realistic practice.

Before Installation

  • Make sure the optic is in good working order and install a fresh, high-quality battery.
  • Test-fit the optic, plate, screws, and T20 driver before applying threadlocker or torque.
  • Confirm that the optic sits flush on the plate, the plate fits the slide, and the mounting screws fully engage.

Plate Installation

  • Degrease the three supplied M4 plate screws and the threaded holes in the slide.
  • Install the plate using the supplied tapered-head M4 screws with Red Loctite® 271.
  • Torque each plate screw to 30 in-lbs.
  • Do not allow excess threadlocker to enter the slide.
  • NOTE: To remove or replace the optic plate, apply heat with a propane torch to the three mounting screws to soften the Red Loctite® 271 before removal. Failure to apply heat may damage the T20 Torx® screw sockets.

Optic Installation

  • Degrease the optic mounting screws and the threaded holes in the True Zero plate.
  • Apply Blue Loctite® 243 to the optic mounting-screw threads.
  • Torque the optic mounting screws to 18–20 in-lbs.
  • Confirm that the screws fully engage the mounting-plate threads.
  • Allow the threadlocker to cure for 24 hours before firing.

Maintenance

  • Keep the optic lens clean using an appropriate lens wipe.
  • Use a lens-safe anti-fog treatment when needed.
  • Replace the battery annually, regardless of the advertised battery life.
  • Check the mounting screws before each range session to confirm they have not loosened.

Zeroing & Carry

  • Zero the optic between 10 and 25 yards based on the intended use of the handgun.
  • Many shooters find a 15-yard zero provides a practical balance for general defensive use.
  • A polymer shim may be used when an optic does not have sufficient internal adjustment to zero.
  • Use a holster that does not contact or impact the optic during reholstering.

True Zero FAQ

Which pistols qualify for True Zero?

RDS installations are only available for new custom Wilson Combat 1911, Wilson Combat Double Stack (EDC X9, eXperior, SFT9, SFX9). You can also send in your Wilson Combat 1911, Double Stack (EDC X9, eXperior, SFT9, SFX9), GLOCK, or SIG P365 handgun. Customer supplied 1911’s must have a fixed rear sight with a similar dovetail as the Wilson 463/Battlesight/Novak Lo-Mount dovetail.

Can I send in an optic I already own?

Yes, you can send your own optic. Call Customer Service to ensure it is an optic we recommend.

Is a slide refinish required?

The True Zero installation requires slide machining, gunsmith installation and slide refinishing.

Does True Zero affect order lead time?

No, adding our True Zero Optics options does not increase production time.

How do I send my pistol in for the True Zero Optics option?

To send your firearm to Wilson Combat for Custom Work, please call Customer Service at 800-955-4856 to obtain an RMA #. Ship via a trusted carrier such as UPS or FedEx.

Can I add True Zero Optics if I have a 428 Adjustable Sight?

No, handguns equipped with the 428 adjustable or Bo-Mar style cut cannot be converted.

Terms and Conditions

  • You must call Customer Service to obtain an RMA to send in your firearm.
  • We will not work on firearms that have been previously modified by anyone other than the Wilson Combat Custom Shop.
  • Any and all work performed is up to the discretion of the Custom Shop Manager.
  • Please do not send items not necessary for custom work. Example: Gun rugs or cases, magazines, etc.
  • All weapons left in care of the shop are done so at your own risk.
  • If your firearm is shipped from an FFL dealer, it must be returned to the same FFL dealer.
  • Due to federal regulations, customers' firearms must be returned to the address from which they were received. If you have a change of address, written request for such change is required.
  • Minimum Custom Work order is $100. If work requested is under this amount, the invoice will be adjusted accordingly.
  • If your firearm is being customized in a way that includes machining or mill work then you are required to purchase a refinish.
  • Quoted lead times on custom work are approximations. We do our best to adhere to time frames but with all true firearm customizations, these times can vary. Please be patient while your custom work is completed as we are working diligently.
