Controlled Chaos bullets offer the best of both worlds when it comes to ballistic performance. This bullet is optimal for use in .17 Remington, .17 Remington Fireball, and .17 Hornet loads.
Please note that these are bullets (projectiles) only for reloading. This product is not loaded ammunition that is ready to use in a firearm.
There are two philosophies when it comes to bullets. One believes rapid expansion, moderate penetration, and weight loss are best, while the other believes that moderate expansion, deep penetration, and virtually no weight loss are best. Both have their virtues and applications, but why settle for one or the other when you can have both?
Controlled Chaos ® bullets offer the best of both. Once fluid is impacted, they shed the front portion of the bullet into multiple petals that radiate outward away from the bullets initial trajectory path resulting in a massive energy spike. The bore diameter base of the bullet continues and penetrates deeply in a straight line. Both the temporary and permanent wound cavity created by this bullet separation is dramatic resulting in quick incapacitation. The solid base creates additional tissue damage and often results in full penetration of the animal.
The Controlled Chaos ® bullet doesn’t expand or fragment when it impacts hard barriers like drywall, only when it impacts fluid, where it expands, fractures, and does its devastation.
No other bullet on the market offers the accuracy and repeatable terminal performance of the Controlled Chaos ®.
Controlled Chaos ® bullets are currently available in the following diameters: .204, .224, .243, .257, .264, .277, .284, .308, .311, .355, and .358.
Solid copper Controlled Chaos ® bullets meet the criteria of states and jurisdictions calling for lead-free projectiles.
Try standing them up and spraying them with an aerosol moly. That will probably give you good groups. Try Varget or H380 in the 17 Rem.
I am a competitive shooter and use these bullets in one of the disciplines I shoot in. I have 13 wins and 1 world record with these. Just last week I was shooting (6) 5 round groups in 2 different rifles (total of 30 rounds per rifle). 1 rifle averaged .257 inches and the other rifle averaged .327 inches. These bullets (and other Lehigh Defense bullets I compete with) flat out perform!
I have shot LeHigh Defense lead free before in .224, 204 and 17 calibers. I like them and they do a super job on the critters I have shot with them. I limit my shooting of them, however due to being 80 yrs old and the budget only allows me to shoot so many, as the price is in the upper bracket, for my budget. But I truly like the bullets and their performance. Bill K. Lake Forest Estates.
I have tried the 20 grain copper Leight bullets in my custom build B 78 while they gave me .75 groups at best. This is not the .25 I get with 20 V-Max soon to be outlawed her in July 2019. So any further development on this line of Bullets will be helpful. Thank you. Don D. ps I too have been reloading for last 50 years, current only shooting around 4,000 rounds a year now.
Living in California and dealing with Condor protection, depending on exactly where you live in California, you must use "lead free" bullets. Lehigh Defence is the only source to purchase lead free bullets for .172 caliber. The 18 Gr Controlled Chaos in 17 caliber, manufactured by Lehigh, produced groupings of about 6 inches at 100 Yds in a Savage M-25, shooting 17 hornet, loaded with various charges of Lill' Gun, and fiddling with OAL. The 20 Gr Controlled Chaos in the same set up produced groupings of about 1.5 inches. A remarkable improvement over the 18 Gr bullet, but not as good as the 20 Gr V-Max Hornady (A lead Core bullet), which can produce a 3/4 inch pattern at 100 yards using the same powder in the same gun and fiddling with the OAL. BUT, The V-Max will be illegal to use in most of California in the future, and is illegal to use now in the Condor zones.
I have not had a chance to work up a load using this bullet, so I have no idea how it will shoot in my rifle. Appearance-wise, it looks like a very well crafted and constructed bullet. Perhaps you can contact me later for feedback after I get a chance to shoot it.
Excellent bullet
Calif will in the near future require the use of lead free bullets statewide.I thought that I may not be able to use my 17 Remington caliber rifle because of the lack of lead free 17 cal bullets. Lehigh came to the rescue. My next concern will these bullets shoot accurately. I heard lead free bullets do not shoot very accurately. No surprise Lehigh bullets shoot very accurate. I shot a 1/4 inch pattern at 100 yards with the 18 gr bulet. I have not shot the 20 grain bullets but will soon. Great Job Lehigh
