Caliber Notes: 5.56 NATO was developed in the United States and initially chambered in the M16 rifle. It is the standard cartridge for NATO forces as well as many non-NATO countries. It is derived from, but not identical to, the .223 Remington cartridge. We use a NATO, mil-spec chamber in our barrels that is reliable and safe to fire both 5.56 and .223 Remington rounds. This common and easy-to shoot cartridge is ideal for defense, training and small-medium game hunting.

One of the best barrels I’ve ever shot the Wilson Combat recon barrel that I use is not a fluted barrel, but it is one of the best I’ve ever shot.
I’ve shot this barrel for 6 years. Heavy bullets track well under 1 moa. Built another one for fun. Same story. Not surprised. Ordering another in BO and one in 9PC
Again Top Shelve items make a better rifle then you can buy outright
Makes sure you order the TR-GTI intermediate gas tube with this barrel! Looks great behind a black handguard. https://wilsoncombat.com/gas-tube-intermediate-length.html.
No problem getting it installed, everything was to spec. The only issue is I got mine with the Armor Tuff applied, which was applied covering the shoulder where the gas block slips on. The finish had to be polished off to get the gas block to fit.
I don't know how to continue my review from before that accidently went as anonymous above. The gun has been built out and running great. I have been shooting PMC XTac 62 and it has shot amazingly. The standard deviation for 100 rds was 9 fps and my first group was .4 and second was .6. The barrel is lite and easy to manuver. I am running it with a can and it just works great. I don't often shoot for groups but can tell the consistancy has remained as my ability to hit groundhogs etc has been great. The average velocity is 2961fps over my Chrony.
I have this barrel for 5yrs. My nephew also has this barrel and it performs great. We both had the Black Armor coating applied and it still looks new. We shoot regularly and cleaning is easy. We highly recommend.
This is my second Wilson Combat barrel. My first was a 16" heavy that I had them build as an upper about 25 years ago for my patrol gun as a deputy.
