    Group Gripper Works

Posted by Corvus on Jul 28th 2020

Many years ago (25?), I installed an original Group Gripper and a collet bushing in an otherwise stock US Army (Ithaca, circa 1943) GM. The difference in accuracy was jaw dropping. I used this gun as a hardball gun for many years, but have noticed some wear in the original Group Gripper unit, that I imagined might stem from it tipping from the spring tension on the link. I hoped that the full length rod might address that perceived source of wear (seems like it should anyway). I used the new link that came with the kit, and noticed immediately that the lockup was definitely tighter. The gun is still a great shooter. How much of that stems from the Group Gripper, and how much from the collet bushing (which has survived firing 1000s of rounds of hardball, by the way), I'm not sure, but I'm very happy with the Group Gripper, and at least surmise that the full length rod version ought to exhibit less wear than the standard length. Overall machining quality was fabulous, which really does matter. I've always been super happy with the improvement in performance of these relatively simple drop-in parts. They seem to last forever and are just a really clever, and cheap, solution to eliminating some looseness from the necessary manufacturing tolerances of a mass-produced pistol.

Improved Accuracy With Group Gripper Kit

I installed this kit on a Taurus 1911, which was fairly accurate. Now the pistol will shoot out a 3/4 inch target dot at 10 yards.

    This Really Helps The Accuracy

I BOUGHT MINE AND FILLED DOWN THE END OF THE ROD TO MAKE TAKE DOWN WITHOUT THE ALLEN WRENCH POSSIBLE. THERE IS ENOUGH LEFT OF THE ALLEN WRENCH SOCKET LEFT TO USE IT TOO OR JUST USE THE BUSHING WRENCH. IT WOULD BE NICE IF THERE WAS A LITTLE MORE LENGHT IN THE PLUG TO SUPPORT THE SHORTER ROD BUT IVE FIRED ABOUT 300 ROUNDS WITH MINE WITH NO PROBLEMS. ALSO IT WOULD BE BETTER IF THE ALLEN WRENCH WAS REPLACED BY A SIMPLE SCREW DRIVER THAT YOU COULD FIND ABOUT ANYWHERE. THE ROD DOESNT HAVE TO BE TORQUED.
