The 230-grain SCHP trades velocity for sectional density, producing a terminal performance envelope optimized for deeper penetration and elevated retained energy at the point of expansion. Constructed identically to the 185-grain load with solid copper, monolithic construction machined to dimensional consistency, this projectile delivers reliable hydraulic expansion without the jacket-core separation that compromises conventional JHP performance through intermediate barriers.

The additional 45 grains of bullet weight increase sectional density meaningfully in .50 caliber, translating to greater resistance to deflection through light cover and more consistent expansion geometry when tissue density varies. Muzzle energy runs approximately 50 to 70 ft-lbs higher than the 185-grain load at comparable velocities, with penetration depth extending into the 10 to 12-inch range, splitting the difference between maximum energy transfer and the deeper tissue penetration the heavier projectile delivers. The preferred load for defensive use against adversaries in heavy clothing or through vehicle glass.
